In the little fernwood gallery, our show is titled Four by Four. It features four founding and longtime members of PACS. Jean Oliver, Ilyanna Jones, Madchina Hexubus and Clive Beal. Each artist has a distinctive style and approach, and each has presented a self-portrait, as well as three other works. From the fanciful, to the dark; from the deep, to the richly warm; together the show demonstrates the varied experiences, and ways, of the PACS.

4 x 4 is a square. It represents the foundation of a durable, stable structure. As members of PACS, we offered ourselves as the beams and supports for building a viable and vital social service organization. Now, all of us have become the parts of this living, growing and changing edifice. As these ten years have shown, we each bring to it our own gifts and actions, each to his or her nature. Yet, we know not the destination, though we hold principles which enable our leadership to excel toward it.

Where inclusion is paramount, all are welcome to participate. Where barriers are deliberately removed – monetary cost, diagnosis – and where abilities are fostered and mentored; these are expressed in ways such as a caregiver giving close attention to her charge, or a participant serving on the board of directors. The PACS mission is shown in the activities of the facilitators and in volunteerism from members of the community, who engage in activities from leading workshops to serving on the board. Together we ensure the continued success of this social enterprise which contributes to the arts and culture, and to the social health of the city. Well done, everyone!
